Homework for 3/17

HAPPY ST. PATRICK´S DAY!

Trans Math:
Percentage Boxes ws
*
Be sure to show your work!
*Use your proportions to solve these.
*Due Thursday

Pre-Algebra: 6.4 practice ws
*There are two sides to this worksheet!
*Remember that corresponding points on similar figures are
identified in order.
*I recommend drawing pictures and labelling the points to help you answer questions 1 - 6. It doesn´t matter what your quadrilateral looks like, just that it has 4 sides and that the figures are similar.
*Hi Daniel! Please complete pg. 290, 1 - 5 and pg. 291, 13 - 19.
*Due Thursday

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Homework for Tuesday, 3/16

Trans Math: Supermarket Math ws
*Solve these 6 problems using proportions and cross-multiplication like we did in class.
(multiply diagonally first, then divide)
*ALL problems must be set up this way on the page AND have labels to receive credit.
*ALL math must be shown for these problems.
*Due Wednesday

Pre-Algebra: Comparing Rates ws
*The partner project portion of this assignment was completed in class.
*Your individual assignment is page 63.
*Your pros and cons do not need to be long and detailed, just accurate (not silly).
*Daniel: you will complete pg. 272, 1 & 2, and problem #9.
*Due Wednesday

Monday, March 15, 2010

Homework for Monday, 3/15

Trans Math: Proportions ws
*Cross multiply (diagonally), then divide!
*Due Tuesday

Pre-Algebra: Proportions ws 66?
*Sorry, I forgot what this worksheet was called and what number it was. :-(
*I do know that it deals with corresponding sides and solving for the missing side ... by using a proportion. And a little review!
*Due Tuesday

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Homework for Thursday, 3/11

Trans Math: Dice Game Questions
*You should have completed your dice rolls today in class and exchanged data with your partner.
*Your graph should have 4 different colors; don't forget the color key.
*Be sure to have the totals at the bottom of each column.
*Answer the questions briefly, but completely. Convince me that you understand probability and how it is represented in a graph.
*Due Friday

Pre-Algebra: Guess what? It doesn't look like you'll be going to the library tomorrow after all, so we will be having class. All the more reason to have your homework completed, because we're moving on!
Assignment: pg 291, 7 - 12
*Use the textbook for definitions and examples. It is your "expert resource."
*Stuck on problems 9 - 12? See the example on pg. 289. You are simply solving proportions (that you are all fantastic at) by making a ratio with corresponding sides (see example #2 again) and simplify. Your simplified ratio should have whole numbers in it, even if you begin with a decimal as with #9. I suggest starting with problem #11 for practice.
*Another hint: you only need to find 2 corresponding sides to solve these. ALL of the corresponding sides of similar figures have the same ratio to one another as the other corresponding sides do to each other.
*Due Friday

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Trans Math: Data Tables
*Be sure your data tables for dice probability are completed.
*You should have your and your partner's dice rolls colored in.
*Thursday check-in

Pre-Algebra: pg. 284, 45 - 55
*This is a mixed review: use your book as a resource if you don't know what to do!
*Due Thursday.

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

Homework for Tuesday, 3/9

Trans Math: Chances on the River ws
*I can't stress this enough ... use your chart carefully!
*Due Wednesday

Pre-Algebra: pg. 283, 20 - 34
*Solve the proportions using any of the methods you like.
*SHOW YOUR WORK TO EACH PROBLEM
*Due Wednesday

Monday, March 8, 2010

Homework for Monday, 3/8

Sorry, everyone, I just got back from a long day at the chiropractor. I certainly hope you haven't been sitting around waiting for this information!

Trans Math: Theory of the Game
*Write a short explanation of your strategy for the Bean Game tomorrow.
*Do not discuss this with anyone, just write up a short description of where, why, and how you plan to place your beans for the next round.
*This assignment is worth 3 points: 3 - complete, on time, well thought out yet brief explanation; 2 - on time, adequate attempt but not really explained well OR 2 - complete and well-explained, but handed in late; 1 - handed something in; 0 - handed nothing in.
*Due Tuesday

Pre-Algebra: pg 272/273, 22 - 35
*Unit rates - figure out what the unit is before you answer.
*Equivalent rates - figure out the conversion factor you need (for example, 1 minute = 60 seconds) and then how to organize it for optimum cancellation opportunities!
*Remember, tonight use the format given in the book.
*If you are accurate, you may move on to whatever way pleases you.
*Due Tuesday

Grade Update - Sunday 6:00 p.m.

Dearest math students,
*Almost all tests & retests have been graded and entered into Teacherease. If your test score does NOT say, "grade reflects retest," then you can assume yours is one that has not been entered into the program yet. Brilliant assumption!
*98% of the homework has been graded & entered into Teacherease. If for any reason you did NOT attach redo or late slips to your papers, they will NOT be entered and you can assume your homework grade is what it is.
*I will not be taking any late or redone papers at this point. The winter trimester is over and it's time to move forward into the spring! (Hadrian, Jake & Colin Mi this does not apply to your retests).
See you on Monday with your new schedules,
Mo ;-)

Friday, March 5, 2010

Grade Update - Friday @ 11:45 p.m.

Trans Math: fraction retests have been posted, but not all of your grades are in so your trimester grades are not final.
(see the previous blog post for other details)

6:00
- Pre-algebra 5.7 test scores are posted, but not all of your grades are in so your trimester grades are not final.
(see the previous blog post for other details)

I'm going to sleep now, so check back tomorrow!
Mo ;-)

Grade Update - Friday @12:30 p.m.

The Thing Mo HATES (dislikes, is frustrated with, etc.) about the grading program: if you don't hit "save" and the program logs you out (time-out because you've taken too long, for example, when Laurel is talking to you about something), you lose EVERYTHING that you've just written.
*In other words, I was finished entering the pre-algebra 5.7 tests & comments ... but now they are gone.
*Fraction retests are next.
*Redone and late papers are NOT entered yet.
*I'm taking a break, but I'll be back ... (oh, look at that sunshine outside!)
Mo ;-)

More End of Tri 2 Notes

ALL of Mo's math students:
*It's true, the 2nd trimester is over.
*I will be correcting tests FIRST and entering them in the gradebook. I will post here as soon as they are in, so check back! No promises on speed ... I have to finalize the schedules for spring trimester so you all have classes to attend by Monday.
*I will be entering the rest of your redone & late papers this week/weekend; please be patient.
*I will not be accepting any more assignments for this past trimester ... you don't really blame me, right? It's done, finished, over!
*Enjoy your days "off" because I will be working!
Peace and smiles to all of you,
Mo ;-)
