Weekend Notes

Trans Math:  Dear Doctors,
Good work overall on your emergency missions.  We will continue your group tasks on Monday.  Immediately after Study Skills, all 6th graders will meet in the Trow for their next assignments.  Have a great weekend!
Mo ;-)

Pre-Algebra: Dear Stock Brokers,
We will finish spending your money on Monday and discuss your job overall.  Plan to have homework related mostly to similarity and measurement next week, as per our discussion in class.  The test for Chapter 6 will be on Thursday; Ms. Hubbard has decided to postpone your LA test until after Spring Break.  That means Mo'Pardy will be on Wednesday!  Enjoy your weekend without mo'math,
Mo ;-)

NOVA Soccer Games begin this Saturday!  Both teams play at Henderson Field next to Olympia HS.  The girls play at noon and the boys play at 1:30.  Soccer shirts will be handed out at the game.

Homework for Thursday, 3/24

Trans Math:  3.4 Rosie Beth Perkins
*please ignore that it says "Jocelyn" at the top of the page.  Your patient is Rosie Beth.
*Pay attention to the vocabulary we reviewed in class today:
Dose refers to how much medicine you take at one time.
Dosage refers to how much of the drug is in each dose.
Total amount in prescription (on the label) is asking how much of the drug is in one prescription (the whole).
Medicine refers to the total amount of drug and filler in the prescription.
*Use the worksheet side to determine which is the drug and which is the filler ... you can figure it out!
*Use the information on the pharmacy "dirt" sheet to figure out how many doses are in the prescription.
Due Friday
*if you forgot to pick up the redo prescription for Andrea Foxx, please do so tomorrow or Monday.

Pre-Algebra:  pg 322, 3 - 23
*Please treat this as much like a "test" as you can.  We are going to correct this on Friday and determine how ready we are for the "real" test.  If you get too much help, it will look like you are better prepared than you actually may be.  Make sense?

Homework for Thursday, 3/17

Trans Math:  Percents and Proportions ws
*You MUST show how you set up the proportion; how you solve the problem after that is up to you.
*You may have noticed that the worksheet sets up the proportion backwards from what I have shown you in class.  No sweat, it works either way just like equivalent fractions do ... yes?  Yes!
*A copy of the worksheet is here: Percents and Proportions ws
Due Friday
The Wilderness Camp group project will be IN class on Friday.  You may begin promptly at 8:00 in Mr. Gacek's room.  You will have exactly 1 hour (if you get started promptly at 8:00, obviously) to complete this project.  Come prepared and ready to work!  I have your group contracts and planning sheets that you made last Friday; I will have them for you at the beginning of class.

Homework for Thursday, 3/10

Trans Math: data, graph, and 3 observations
*You should have the data from your PIG game in a frequency table.  You should have separate tallies (totals) for you and for your partner.
*You should have a graph of your data in two different colors: one color for you and one for your partner.  Your graph needs a key.  Your color should be on the bottom of the graph, your partner's should be on top of yours.  This is called a "stack bar," by the way.
*You need to make 3 observations about this data: how does your experimental data compare to theoretical probability?  ONE observation should consider your data alone, ONE observation should be about the combined total data, and ONE observation should be about whatever you find most interesting about the data.
*Wondering about what Mo is looking for in your observations?  Check the Mo'Help button and follow the observation link.
*Absent today?  (Jackson & Surabhi only) You are excused from this assignment.
Due: Friday

Pre-Algebra:  3 similar figures
*Mr. Jeff went over some more geometry terms with you today (for Mr. Kenis, tomorrow) and you practiced measuring angles in class.
*Your assignment is to enlarge, to scale, 3 drawings.
*Accuracy is critical!

Due Thursday
*Please bring a protractor tomorrow if you are in Mo's class.
*Mr. Kenis's class will need a protractor on Friday.

*Only Quinn got 100% on this worksheet last year ... join him in the Chances on the River Hall of Fame!
*Due Wednesday

Pre-Algebra: pg 283, 20 - 34
*Solve for the variable
*You may use any of the methods for solving a proportion that you like ... but I need to be able to tell what you did.
*Set up 32 - 34 as proportions also ... these are good practice for the test, eh?
*Due Wednesday

Monday, March 7, 2011

Homework for Monday, 3/7

Trans Math:  Bean Game Theory

*Pg 270 & 271 will give you some options to try if you're stuck.
*We will discuss the different methods used for finding unit/equivalent rates tomorrow in class.
*This is review with a new twist, so solve these carefully!

*For all of my classes, grading is 97% complete.
*Don't forget to be prepared for a big, sloppy P.E. class or two next week!
*Soccer practices begin on Tuesday (all players), Wednesday (boys), and Thursday (girls).  All Nova soccer players are welcome at any practice, but we would appreciate it if you would attempt to come to your "day" to the best of your (or your carpool's) ability.  Thanks!
