-we will be discussing and comparing these with other years on Monday, so be prepared!

Homework for Monday, 3/19

Assignment:  What's in the Bag?
*There are some very specific requirement to this worksheet; please read the following directions for details:
- Everything is done in alphabetical order
- When converting to percentages, you must use a proportion set up in the way I showed you in class.  If you are unsure about how to complete this requirement, please follow this link. Note - I have not yet updated this link.

- Your histogram must be completed in color
- You should have a guess for what you think the most common M&M color is this year; that guess should be written up next to your name at the top of the page.
- You may have noticed that there is now an M&M page on this blog.  That is where I will have an ongoing list of the assignments for your M&M packet as well as extra copies of each worksheet.  Check it out!
DUE TUESDAY, but do not turn it in; just have it on your desk at the beginning of class.  I recommend staying current on these assignments!

Homework for Thursday, 3/15

Assignment: Taking Chances on the River
*Please read the instructions on this worksheet and take your time!
*Finish the table with the 36 possible rolls for two dice (we went over these in class today).  Rolls should be written as (1, 3) and also (3, 1) for example.
*Have a method to your madness ... it will be easier to answer the questions if you can find the possibilities easily. Your table must be complete for full credit.
*USE THE TABLE you create to answer these questions.  Some of them are NOT intuitive!
*Answers should be written as probabilities (part to whole) or the probability that something will happen out of the 36 tries.
*P stands for "probability of" something happening.  For example, if the question is P(3,3) it is asking you how many times you theoretically will roll 3 and 3 in 36 rolls.  The answer would be 1:36 or 1/36: there is only one place in your table where 3,3 is listed.
*"difference of" means that the difference between the two dice is the given number, for another example.  Read the questions out loud to yourself and you will know what the question is asking.
*You do not need to simplify your answers, although it is certainly good practice!
*There no copies of this worksheet available online today.
Due Friday

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

Homework for Tuesday, 3/13

Assignment:  Supermarket Math
*You MUST show me the proportions, with labels, that you use to solve these problems.
*You MUST show me your arithmetic; show your work!
*Remember that there are different ways to set up your proportions, but the important thing is that you have like/like or like = like (directly over or across from the same units).
*Mo's recommendation: Figure out the way YOU like best, then stick with it.
*A copy of the worksheet is HERE!
Due Wednesday

Homework for Monday, 3/12

If you're keeping track, this is the first assignment of the spring trimester!  All of those other papers you have are yours to keep now; late papers, redone papers, etc.  We're starting fresh --

Homework:  Fractional Parts ws
*A lot of talking by me today ... sorry about that!  I promise that this will be a very hands-on unit, so be prepared for a variety of activities coming your way.
*We practiced taking notes today (with varying levels of success), so now you can practice using them.  Learn from what you wrote or did NOT write: can you answer your own questions that you have now?  Do you WISH you'd written something down, but thought you would remember it?  Aha!
*Yes, you must use colors for this assignment.  Seem simple?  Good.
*Can an answer be a decimal or part of a whole box?  Check your notes.
*Show me your work.  This practice is for setting up problems that cannot be solved in your head, so practice good habits NOW.
*Sorry, but I do not have a copy of this worksheet available online.  If you were absent today (or you are Everett), you will have to make this up when you return to school.
Due Tuesday

The End of Winter Trimester

Just so you all know, I have a lot of details to attend to this weekend as my father's memorial service is on Saturday, so I will not be correcting or entering the retests until Sunday evening.  Thank you for your patience.

Ditto with your spring trimester schedules ... they will be posted on TeacherEase by Sunday evening some time.

Have a wonderful weekend and do not forget to spring your clocks forward!

In peace,
Mo ;-)

Homework for Thursday, 3/8

Assignment:  Application Test Corrections with parent signature
*PLEASE prepare for either retest tomorrow by using the Quizlet options specific to what you are retesting on.  Feeling calm and prepared will go a long way to making your retest a successful one.  You will have plenty of time for the retest, so sleep well, eat well, and bring a snack/beverage if you need one.
*If you are retesting the application section, figuring out what to do using simpler problems is the key to not being flustered by the fractions themselves ... again, practice practice practice!
Due Friday - ANY outstanding assignments from the winter trimester

Catching Up, Wednesday 3/7

Your application test scores have been posted on Teacherease.  Many of you will want to start practicing those fraction application problems, like I have recommended on Quizlet, prior to the retest on Friday.
Due tomorrow:
*Second Bingo board - you do not need to list all of the equivalences, but you do need to identify what the fraction is.
*Fraction Computation Test Corrections
You have had all of these for awhile, so work on your Science Fair Project if you are done!

Homework for Monday, 3/5

Assignment:  Application Review with Sven
*A copy of the worksheet is HERE; please have this completed tomorrow so I can have it corrected and back to you by the end of the day (pre-test).
*If you get stuck on any problem, please go to Sven's help page by clicking HERE.  Sven will give you a much easier version of the problem to solve in your head.  Then, figure out what you did and trust the operation/steps you used to reach your answer.  The problems on the worksheet are that easy!
Due Tuesday

Assignment:  Test Corrections (computation section)
*Please  be sure to include the reason you missed a problem along with the new CORRECT answer.  This is graded on the percentage you correct correctly, so be careful!
Corrections completed and including parent signatures that are turned in on Tuesday, March 6, will receive one candy point as well.
Corrections are officially due on Thursday, March 8.

Other assignments this week:
Tuesday night - more fraction application problems to be corrected online
Wednesday night - Computation test corrections (complete if you have not) & 2nd Bingo board.
