Homework for Wednesday, 4/25

First of all, congratulations on your new lives!  The challenges have just begun and they will all be unique, but you will learn more than you can imagine about how math works in your life as well as things about yourself you may or may not have realized.  Don't worry, your relationship with your stock brokers will be made clearer over the next week.  Now ...

Assignment #5: Investment Options, pg 29
*Please ignore the choices: you are to research the risks and benefits of STOCK investments.
*Also, be prepared to talk about what stocks ARE.  It is only one kind of investment option, but it is the primary one we will be "using" this year.

Homework? Thursday, 4/19

No, there is no math homework tonight.
*However, this would be an excellent opportunity to complete any missing papers or papers that you would like to redo before conferences.  Anything turned in by tomorrow, April 20, will be entered into TeacherEase this weekend.

At this moment, I do not plan to enter your test scores into TeacherEase tonight.  There are several tests still in limbo and I want to have those completed first.  However, you should have test corrections tomorrow (in class) or this weekend, as per whatever applies to you.
*The retest date WILL happen, but I haven't yet decided when it will be.

I hope to see you at the Poetry Performances at the Olympia Timberland Regional Library tonight at 7:30!

Homework for Tuesday, 4/17

Pre-Test Choice #1
*You received several options in class today for homework tonight.
*The only one I have a copy of here for you to print is Table Problem Solving.
*You may also use the test option on Quizlet, but you must print if off and bring it in for credit.  The Quizlet options you may select from are:  Sven's Proportions, Proportion Applications, Decimals/Fractions/Percents, Percents and Proportions, Fractions to Decimals.
*You are responsible for completing one of these assignments tonight.
*Choose wisely as you prepare!
DUE WEDNESDAY

Homework for Monday, 4/16

Assignment: How Does Your Garden Grow? ws
(or as I will enter it into TeacherEase: Flower Power)
*Carefully organize your proportions; say them to yourself once you have them set up to be SURE that you are solving for the right piece of information.
*We went over how to think about questions #5 and #6 in class today ... remember, there will be two steps before you have enough information!
*Think very carefully about #7.  Your "why" or "why not" needs to show me that you understood your choice of an answer.  If you miss the first part ("yes" or "no") then your why or why not will also be incorrect. Yikes!
*This worksheet is an example of being able to use the math in application.  This is a big chunk of what the application portion of Thursday's test will look like, so bring your questions to class if you have them!
*I do not have a copy of this worksheet available online.
*Due Tuesday

Homework for Thursday, April 12

Assignment: Problem Solving - Use a Graph ws 73
*NOTE: Calculators are NOT allowed on this assignment.
*This worksheet requires you using proportions to organize your parts and your wholes.  You must write these out and show your work.
*Can you figure out what the whole is for questions 1 - 7 first?  (you need to)
*Now figure out which part you are missing and do the math!
*For questions 8 - 11, you may use any method you want to solve the problems, just be sure that I can tell what you did (or I won't correct it).
        - of course you know my favorite method!
*#12 is extra credit!  Please figure this out on your own if you are interested and do not use someone else's work.
DUE FRIDAY

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Homework for Wednesday, 4/11

Assignment: Working with Decimals, Fractions, and Percents ws 19
*Yes, this worksheet emphasizes that all of these skills are related.
*You will need to convert to a common unit in order to answer the questions; whether you use fractions, decimals, or percents is your choice.
*For the rectangle at the bottom of the page, this is NOT a trick question.  Although it does not look evenly divided, assume that each of the "quarters" is of equal size.
*There is not a copy of this worksheet available online.
DUE THURSDAY

The unit test for Fractions, Ratios, Percents, and Proportions will be next Thursday, April 19.

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

Homework for Tuesday, 4/10

Assignment:  High Flyers ws
*You must follow the directions on the page and show your work for credit.
- To solve using fractions (A - D) first write the percent over 100, then simplify, then multiply
- To solve using decimals (E - H) first divide the percent by 100, then multiply
- To solve using a proportion (I - L) first set up the proportion, then cross multiply, then divide
- For M - P you may use any method, but you must show your work so I can tell what you did.  You do NOT have to use the same method for all 4 of the problems.
DUE Tuesday

Monday, April 9, 2012

Homework for Monday, 4/9

Assignment:  Percentage Blocks worksheet
*Use proportions to solve these!
-Figure out your whole.  There will be a different whole for each ratio (percentage, number of boxes, fraction)
*To figure decimals, divide your percentage answer by 100.
*There will be white squares leftover.  Use the same steps you used to determine the colored box answers for the white boxes.  If you're off on your colors, your white will all be incorrect, so be careful!
*A copy of the worksheet is HERE.

Enjoy your spring break!

Hello beautiful people, I hope you are having a fun, exciting, and restful week off.  We've been working in the yard and trying to get stuff done around here ... which, by the way, I find exciting and fun, but not very restful!

News: Two ducks, a mallard and his lovely partner, have been landing in our yard a few times a day lately, so we have been feeding them cracked corn and hoping they'll make a nest of ducklings somewhere on our property.  Stay tuned!  If I get a picture of them I will post it.

I have been working on your M&M packets and should have them posted on TeacherEase by Friday some time.  I have a few pages of them graded and so far they are looking very well done!

Hope you are all having a really wonderful break,
Mo ;-)
