Final Cumulative Tests

Final cumulative tests are used to determine individual weaknesses in the math skills necessary to move on to the next level of math. These tests are not graded, but rather used to give students an idea of areas they should study over the course of the summer. Students interested in reviewing specific skills should use the guidelines that follow:

Trans Math:
Tuesday - June 1: Basic applications, negative integers, order of operations, decimals.
Wednesday - June 2: Fractions, ratios, proportions, percentages, probability.
*Students interested in studying pre-algebra over the summer need to demonstrate mastery in all areas of this test.
*Pre-algebra books and study packets will be available on Friday, June 4. See me!

Pre-Algebra:
Wednesday - June 2: Evaluating expressions (order of operations & exponents), writing verbal expressions, inequalities (yuk, remember?), equation busting, and simplifying like terms using all operations.
Thursday - June 3: Prime factorization, GCFs & LCDs, multiplying and simplifying fractions with variables, applications with percents/ratios/proportions, solving for the missing side of triangles/rectangles, scale drawings (congruent sides), and MAYBE the Pythagorean Theorem (I haven't written that part yet).
*Pre-Algebra BOOKS are due this Thursday!

*Use the examples on pages 352 - 354 in your textbook if you don't remember how to do this.
*You may also set up proportions the way we reviewed in class on Monday.
*You have the skills to do these, just figure out how to set up the problem first: use a similar problem with friendly numbers (like 12 decreased by 25%) to figure out the equation that works for you.
*Forget the worksheet? You will need to copy the problems below (unless I figure out how to get them on to a link, but I need to eat dinner first so don't count on it).
*NO CALCULATORS.
*Due Wednesday

Percent Increase & Decrease Problem Set

Homework for Monday, 5/3

Trans Math: Stock Graph, pg 33
*This is the #3 assignment in your Finance Park book.
*Please follow the directions ... you will need to make a key and accurately plot 3 stocks.
*Due Tuesday - there will be one point subtracted if this assignment is not completed by class time.
More taxes in class on Tuesday!

Pre-Algebra: ws 7.6
PLEASE NOTE: I accidently gave you the worksheet from the next lesson (applications), not noticing that 7.5 was missing from my workbook until now (3:30). In other words, apply the skills we've learned using whatever method most makes sense to you. Just do your bestest!
*So, pay attention to the directions on the worksheet, okay?
*Notice what is 100% (wholesale or original price, depending on the problem)
*Notice whether or not your price will be increasing (markup percent) or decreasing (discount price).
*Then APPLY the markup or savings ... (see example below)
*For problems 8 - 13, you must find the tax and add it to the food bill.
*Sometimes there is a tip too!
*Due Tuesday
Example: After you find the monetary value of the markup percent, you must add it to the wholesale/original price in order to find the new price. Your other option is to add 100% to the markup percent before you solve the equation ... it's all about how you decide to arrange it.
