What now?

Daisy Fae says, "Really?  Snow?"
Funny thing ... snow at the end of February in Olympia.  When we return to regular school next week we will only have 3 days left in the winter trimester.  That's all the time you will have to complete assignments, redo papers, and retest.  Please use this time to take care of these things.  You can do this in many ways:
*Visit Teacherease and see what you are missing.  I am continuing to update daily.
*Use this blog to find copies of assignments you are missing.  There are links to MOST papers.  Find the due dates in Teacherease, then use the archives on the right of this blog to find that day's posting.  If you come to class next week with missing work, this is where I'm going to send you anyway.
*Use Quizlet to practice these math skills at home.
*Be ready to retest in class on TUESDAY for pre-algebra and WEDNESDAY for Trans Math.

Most of all, enjoy the snow!  I have a feeling there won't be any school tomorrow either ...
Warm wishes,
Mo ;-)

Homework for Wednesday, 2/2

Trans Math: Problem Solving w' Fractions
*These problems are NOT just putting fractions onto paper and solving them.  Try different strategies, including pictures, to figure out what to do, before you solve them.
*After you are done, make sure your answer makes sense in relation to the question.  If it doesn't, try another strategy.
*Note that problem #1 requires a chart to prove your answer.
*Hmm... many of you in second period forgot to have a desk partner pick up the worksheet for tonight.  Luckily for you, my amazing homework scanning abilities will save you!  problem solving with fractions worksheet
Due Thursday

Pre-Algebra:  pg 240, 22 - 35
*Be sure to show your work (meaning the original problem and how you solved it).
*You are free to use whichever of the three strategies works for you when simplifying, just be sure that you use one!
*Be extra careful with #29 as it was probably the least popular problem of last year's pre-algebra class.  Although it will not count as a correction point, if you do not attempt it and have a logical answer, it will cost you a point.  We will discuss this problem in class.
Due Thursday

Homework for Tuesday, 2/1

Trans Math:  Multiplication #1
*Today you received one of two homework worksheets:
1) the Robot- requirements are to focus on the "mechanics" (how to) multiply fractions.  Or...
2) the Words - requirements are to focus on trying to cross cancel (aka cross simplify) before multiplying.  The instructions are on the worksheet, so be sure to follow them completely.  Please note that you are also required to explain why you think it works.
*Those of you doing the Robot worksheet are certainly encouraged to wow me with your cross canceling skills, but it is not required.  You may simplify after.
*I will also put the directions for cross canceling on the Mo'Help page, so you can go there if those reminders are not on your worksheet.
Due: Wednesday

Pre-Algebra:  pg 235, 36 - 50
*Addition and subtraction of unlike fractions
*Follow the same steps you follow for adding 1/2 + 1/4, eh?
*Variables will only show up in your numerators.
*Make sure that your fractions are simplified, but they do not need to be in mixed number form.
*For 45 - 50 you have the option of using mixed numbers OR improper fractions.  (It really doesn't matter)
Due: Wednesday
