Planning ahead, posted 2/29

The computation section of your fraction unit tests have been entered into Teacherease.  See?  I beat my self-imposed midnight deadline!

Next Wednesday, March 7, we will take the application section of the fraction unit test.  While we will be studying for it in class on Monday & Tuesday, there is no reason to wait until then!  I have a nice set of problems on Quizlet for you to practice with.

Retakes for either or both sections of the tests will be offered on Friday, March 9.  You will have your computation sections back on Monday so you can make corrections and decide whether or not you need to.

Redone and late papers for math should be in to me by Wednesday, March 7.   If you are just now noticing you are missing something, check this blog (archived by date of the assignment as listed on Teacherease) for copies and/or descriptions of assignments.  Come in Monday morning prepared to check the extra worksheets file and/or let me know if something is not in there.

I know you have a big last week of the trimester ahead of you, so managing that load wisely is your challenge.  Use this 4-day weekend to your advantage.  There will be no math homework on Wednesday (after the application test) except your 2nd Bingo card (which most of you have finished), but Thursday night could get ugly if you're preparing for a retest, science project, geography test ... need I go on?  Keep running through the finish line; you can do it!

See you all Monday; enjoy this crazy weather and take care,
Mo ;-)

Assignment: Fractions - basics review worksheet OR Quizlet (fraction options)
*Change your mind?  I do have a copy of the worksheet HERE.
*Be sure to correct the worksheet using this key and correcting any of your mistakes before you turn it in tomorrow.
*If you use Quizlet, print your test (with your mistakes corrected) or have your parents sign a note if you cannot print it out.
Due Wednesday
*The computation section of fractions will be in class tomorrow.  Come prepared to get started immediately!  All you will need is your homework to turn in and a pencil to take the test with.  Snacks (healthy brain snacks) are okay.

Homework for Monday, 2/27

Assignment:  Student Choice #2
*Students selected their own homework today based upon their practice needs in preparation for the computation section of the fraction test this coming Wednesday.
*If you were absent and/or lost your worksheet, I suggest that you complete any of the fraction options as a "test" on our Quizlet page and then print out your work to turn in as your choice assignment.
Due Tuesday

Homework for Wednesday, 2/15

Assignment:  Fractions Comprehensive Review
*These are the skills that will be on the computation section of the fraction test.
*Be sure that you know and understand ALL of these skills, because most of the rest of the assignments you will have for the remainder of this trimester will be your choice, so you need to know what you know and don't know.  (great sentence!)
*Sorry about the typo; the third section is supposed to read: " Write the following mixed numbers as improper fractions."
DUE THURSDAY

Homework for Tuesday, Valentine's Day!

Appreciate those you love and those who love you today.  Better yet, do it every day!

Assignment:  Division Applications
*Practice getting used to the types of wording used in fraction division problems.
*Are you dividing the right number by the right number?  (it matters TONS!)
*Check to see that your answer makes sense by rereading the problem and testing your solution with the given information.
*Believe it or not, I do have a copy of the worksheet today!  Here it is.

Homework for Monday, 2/13

Sorry everyone, I just walked in the door.  Here is the homework for this evening:

Assignment:  Fraction Division ws
*I included several examples of how to divide fractions (mixed numbers, etc.) right on the worksheet.  Please look at those if you are stuck.
*Answers do NOT need to be converted back to mixed numbers.  In fact, you should get used to seeing them as improper fractions because that is how you will mostly be using them from here on out.
*However, you SHOULD know the difference between leaving a fraction in its improper form and being in simplest form with "1" being the only remaining common factor.
Example:  40/6 is not simplified, but 20/3 is fine.
*You do NOT need to worry about this tonight though; just focus on the steps of dividing!
Due Tuesday
(*no homework for you tonight, Ranjan)

Homework for Thursday, 2/9

Assignment:  Problems 41 - 48
*This is actually a worksheet out of a pre-algebra book, meaning these skills are ones you are expected to have mastered by next year!  The keys are:
-answers MUST be in simplest form (no more common factors except "1")
-answers use the parts and wholes given in each set
-be sure to answer a, b, c, d, when appropriate.  In other words, this is not a multiple choice worksheet.
*Create your fractions using the data given, then simplify them.
*#48 is EXTRA CREDIT
-you are not required to do #48, but if you do, do a fantastic job in your explanation!
Due Friday
*Ranjan & Daphne - I will create this problem set and have a link here ... but probably not today.  So very busy!  Mo ;-)

Homework for Wednesday, 2/8

Assignment - Multiplication #2
*There were 8 different assignments today, so see me if you lose track of yours!  I have a record of what you are receiving individually in a notebook.
*Your assignment should take you to your next step of practice for multiplying fractions; remember that practice will help these skills stick in your brain!
*I believe I have additional instructions for most of these skills on the Mo'Help page, but please let me know if there is something missing that you would like added.
Due Thursday

Homework for Tuesday, 2/7

Assignment: Solving Fraction Problems ws 62
*Be careful to DO the right thing!  This is the key to fractions where the wording might throw you off.
*Is it addition?  Subtraction?  Multiplication?  Does your answer make sense?
*OF is the word of the day ... when you want to find 4/5 of something you multiply!
*You must show your work on all of these; I suggest using another sheet of paper rather than squish your work in between the problems.
Due Wednesday

Homework for Monday, 2/6

Assignment:  Multiplication #1
*So many different assignments on this day!  For the 4 of you who were absent, you will need to pick up your individualized assignment from our classroom.
*Renaming to Improper fractions - we practiced this in class today and some of you will continue practicing on your worksheet tonight.
*Right after the candy point tomorrow, we will complete your second time trial!  Remember that having this skill at your fingertips (not having to think too hard about it every time) is a skill worth its time in practice.
Due Tuesday

Homework for Thursday, 2/2

Today everyone had a chance to check in individually and let me know how comfortable they are feeling with fractions.  Specifically, addition & subtraction, but they got to see and talk about their pre-quizzes with me too.  Great information!  Thank you all for your honesty.

Assignment:  Subtraction #2
*Mostly we are working on borrowing right now, but a few of you have factoring worksheets instead.
*It is fantastic when you are all in class (like you were today) so I know that everyone has a copy of the worksheet they needed!
Due Friday
Note - yes, there is quiz bowl, but your math is still due!

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Homework for Wednesday, 2/1

Assignment: Map Distances
*We went over this extensively in class ... be careful!
*ALL of your calculations must be show to receive credit.  You may work on the worksheet or attach another sheet of paper.
*There are no redoes on this assignment.
DUE THURSDAY

Special point: Draw a diagram showing the most beans you could have on one of our Bingo cards and still not have a Bingo.  You are expected to figure this out on your own, not use your parents or the internet as a resource.  This IS extra, so it is not required; just do it if you want the challenge!
*Answers should be drawn on the back of your homework assignment.
