Homework for Wednesday, 2/28

Assignment:  Your Choice (corrected!!!)
Choices -
*Quizlet Fraction Applications
*Practice with Sven
*Properties with Fractions
Don't forget to turn this in tomorrow for full credit!
Sorry for the lateness of this, it's been another very busy day.
Also, notice that the Sven key first gives you ways to think about working the problem; the answers to the actual problems (via David in speed mode, so please let me know if they're wrong!) are there on the side.

Homework for Wednesday, February 20

Assignment: Your Choice (not Mo's)
It's the day before the computation section of the fractions test.  No one knows what you need to study/practice at this point better than you do.  Did you forget to come in at break and let me know what you wanted?  Well then, you only have two options left at this point:
1) The Basic Review link here
or
2) Quizlet - any of the fraction sets
*If you need a quick brush up, go to the Mo'Help tab of this blog and click on any of my fraction help links.
*Do NOT forget to correct your paper, correct your mistakes, and make it easy for me to see what you did.  This is a credit/half-credit/no credit assignment.  The only way to get full credit is to turn it in on time, corrected!
Due Thursday
*Come prepared to start the fraction test immediately.  Bring healthy snacks and/or a water bottle with you to class.  Whatever helps you relax and focus.

Homework for Tuesday, February 19

Assignment:  Your Choice
Think about what you need to practice on in order to be best prepared for this Thursday's test.
I handed out worksheets that you requested today, but Quizlet is still an option!
Remember, this part of the test is computation only; tackle the application problems only if you feel completely ready to rock the test.

Homework for Wednesday, 2/13

Assignment:  Division #2
You have self-assessed where you are in the fractions unit, so continue thinking about how to best prepare for the test next Thursday.  More on that in a minute.
Tonight's homework is fraction division.  You received one of two assignments:
1) Page 17, division of mixed numbers.  This is the one I was calling, "the one with the woman" sheet, because there is a picture of a woman on it.  Why is she there anyway?
2)  Fraction Word Problems; this is the link to that assignment.
Due Thursday

Fraction Computation Test:  Thursday, February 21
Skills for this test include -
*recognizing equivalent fractions
*being able to turn improper fractions to mixed and mixed to improper
*recognizing when a fraction is in simplest form and being able to put any fraction in simplest form
*being able to name the factors of a number
*adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fraction equations
 - within the equations, you may need to borrow (regroup) or carry (regroup)
There are practice sets for ALL of these skills on our Quizlet page.  If you are shaky on any of these skills, please start practicing now!

Homework for Tuesday, 2/12

Assignment:  Check What You Know (Cumulative Review)
Yep, you are all doing this worksheet tonight so you can self-assess where you are in this unit.  Your homework fo rthe remainder of this week and next will reflect how prepared you feel for the fraction computation section of the test next week.  (I'm guessing Thursday, but I will let you know tomorrow)
*Be sure to pause before each operation and remember what you are doing.  You have taught David and me a lot about fractions, so there is no more forgetting allowed!
*Need a quick review of an operation?  Use the Mo'Help tab of this blog and follow the appropriate link.
*Want to start practicing early?  Quizlet has a LOT of fraction sets you can use.
Bella - you can use Quizlet tonight, just select a set from the pre-algebra page: either Chapter 4, Chapter 5 comp, or PF, GCF, LCM.

Homework for Monday, 2/11

Assignment:  Fraction Division #1 plus "why"
Today we reviewed the mechanics for how to divide fractions.  Many of you had simply forgotten how to divide and needed a refresher ... hopefully today helped.  Please remember that this is because you probably learned "how" but not "why."  Therefore:
1)  You selected a division worksheet based upon whether you felt the material was new or review for you.  I do not have copies of those online.
2)  On the back of the worksheet your are to explain "why" dividing fractions works the way it does.  Why do you THINK you simply take the second fraction, use its reciprocal, then multiply?  You can ask a parent, a wise elder, google, or come up with your own reasoning.  It does not matter how you come up with your answer, it matters that you have thought about it and attempted to explain it.  You are much more likely to remember how to divide fractions if you have some understanding of why it works and have not just memorized a series of steps.  AND - You need to be able to convince David tomorrow as to why it works.   I have a feeling he is going to be one tough customer.
If you still need help with the division steps, please use the "how to divide fractions" link on the Mo'Help tab of this blog.  They are there for you!

Homework for Wednesday, February 6

Assignment:  Fraction Applications - A, B, or C
Today you had a choice of application assignments determined by the level of difficulty you felt ready to tackle.  Remember that breaking down the problem and figuring out what it is asking is the key.  You have the skills you need, just use them!
*The only level I have a link to is B, so if you lost your copy you will need to complete B as your homework, regardless of your previous choice.
Here is a copy of Fraction Applications B
Due Thursday

Homework for Tuesday, February 5

Assignment: Fractions #5
Today you most likely have an assignment associated with fraction subtraction.
*Find your common denominator.
*You may either subtract the whole numbers and fractions separately
     OR
You may change to improper fractions, subtract, then turn them back into mixed numbers.
*If you are borrowing, remember to borrow the number of pieces in your "pie," then add to the number of pieces you already have.
Absentees: Emily, your assignment is posted on the front assignment board.
