Homework for Wednesday, March 27

Assignment: Verbal Percent Equations 2 (A or B)
This is our continued work on this important stuff. All proportions must be set up on your work page and all arithmetic must be shown. Please select your homework based on your needs:
A) Percents and Equations 2A - Link!
If you are still leery about setting up a proportion from the "what-is-of" verbiage, then this worksheet allows you to focus on the setup and not worry so much about the arithmetic. You still need to solve the problems without calculators though. ;-)
B) Percents and Equations 2B - Link!
If you feel solid in setting up the equations, this option provides a bit more of a mathematical challenge and is good for practicing your arithmetic skills in double-digit multiplication and long division. It's not exactly super difficult though. ;-)

Homework for Tuesday, March 26

Assignment: Percent Application Choice
In BOTH of these assignments, you must have the proportion set up before you solve it. Show this work.
NEITHER assignment may be done with a calculator.
Percent Applications Choice A - Link!
This is the problem set that includes simpler arithmetic and less complex wording. Still, you will need to make sure you are identifying which parts of the proportion you have and which piece is missing. Read carefully! Once you have the proportion set up, read back through it with the "What-is-of" method of seeing that you have it set up correctly. It should read back in a way that matches the question. Reading it out loud to yourself will help!!!!
Percent Applications Choice B - LinkLink!
This problem set uses information I gleaned from LAST year's Frodoland maps! Read the situations carefully and make sure you are setting up your proportions to answer the questions. Show all arithmetic.

Assignments for Monday, March 25

TWO assignments today: One "Homework" and one Finance assignment.

Homework: Percents and Proportions - Link!
Aka "Verbal Percents," please refer to the practice we did in class on how the "What-is-of" organizational method works. I suggest you use the Mo'Help tab and go through the instructions again if you need to (or were absent). Honestly, it works in a way that will make you (hopefully) feel more confident in how you set up your equations. Just try it. ;-)
*Calculators are NOT allowed for this assignment.
*Every problem must be set up as a proportion, then solved on your paper for credit.
Due Tuesday

Finance Assignment: Federal Taxes - Link!
We went over this in class today, but now you will be using your GAI, not $100,000.
FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS at the bottom of the page; it's essentially 5 steps. ;-)
You will turn these in for approval so you can do the next steps of your budgeting.
Calculators are not only allowed, they are strongly recommended!
Due Tuesday
*This finance fassignment does not currently apply to Alijah, Zoe, Logan, or Leo. We will go over it together when you get back

Homework for Thursday, March 21

Assignment: Life Poster - It's time to represent your new self artistically!
Posters should be completed with real names and reflect your life situation.
You are to draw yourself as if you are going to your job; how would you dress as a professional in your field?
If you have a spouse or children, you will draw them too - make sure you reflect their ages and interests (as you imagine them).
The "previously known as" line is for the 7th & 8th graders who "lived your life" before you did.
Family portraits should be drawn, inked, and colored directly on the sticker you were given.  I do have extra stickers if you don't like what you've drawn.
Borders MUST be decorated; the inside of the posters may be.
This is an effort based grade, so put your best effort into it!
Due Friday
Unfortunately, because you need the poster and the sticker to complete this assignment, you will need to pick up the pieces from me in class on Friday.

Homework for Wednesday, March 20

YOU GOT A LIFE!!!!
Congratulations to all of you who got a life today. Some of you were happy, some indifferent, and some dissatisfied with your draw, but in every case, it's time to begin living it.
You will now live one month of your life ... you will get a salary, pay your taxes, move into a new house, buy a car, have some lucky and some unlucky things happen to you, and much more.
But tonight you have your first folder assignment:
Career Research - Link!
*The first column is where you look up your job and what it entails. You are just ONE person on this career path, so certainly you are not the highest paid person in this job. More likely you are new to your job or in training, but if you are further along in your career you are a bit older and more established ... with a family to take care of. Do your research and find out what your job is like.
*The second column is where you share the thoughts of the "real" you. Which parts of your job would you like? Which not so much? Which are tolerable? Think about it not as the job title, but as the actual work you would be doing. You might be surprised either way.
And mostly, it's supposed to be challenging. Welcome to the game; now jump in and make the most of it!

Homework for Tuesday, March 19

Assignment: Proportions A or B
I cannot stress enough how important it is that you practice the rhythm of solving these problems. I will set you free after this, but for now, your work is to FIRST multiply, THEN divide for the solution. Seriously ... no "smart" problem-solving tonight, just practice the steps. NO calculators either, but you can use your triangle card!
(How often does a teacher tell you not to practice your smarts?!?! We'll get back to that ...)
A: Solving Proportions - Link!
This worksheet has the simpler arithmetic
B: Solving Proportions - Link!
This worksheet has a bit more challenging arithmetic, but it's not rocket science. ;-)

Homework for Monday, March 18

Assignment: Ad Work
So here's the deal, I just got home (6:09) and have not yet tackled the task of making a worksheet where the advertisements can show up like they do on the homework I handed out in class. So if you don't have this assignment, you might get lucky if I figure it out, and you might need to wait and pick up a copy for tomorrow.

Now, if you are here for help on the assignment, I'm going to tell you to go ask a wise elder that knows about coupons ... like they are your best and real resource. This is both an opinion set of questions and not. Some of the answers are based on using math in the real world, but you can decide to focus on various aspects depending on how you interpret the math. So think about them and ask someone, eh?

Homework for Monday, March 11

Assignments: % Ad and % Words
*Both assignments should be left in Mo's in-basket BY Friday.

*% Ad -
Find a hard (print) copy of any advertisement that contains a percent.
Look through magazines, newspapers, junk mail, coupons ... you can find something!
*It may NOT be printed from the internet.
Be sure to attach or write your name on the advertisement.
Due BY Friday for credit; no late advertisements will be accepted.

*% Words - Link!
Follow the directions on the worksheet, writing the letters in the blanks and using those to solve the final puzzle. EXPLORE with this one ... you have to think about percentages and then use them to take apart the words. But seriously, you do know what first, last, and middle mean, right?
And yes, I do want you to create your own puzzle using the phrase they have given you. If the phrase doesn't float your boat, use a different one!
Due by Friday
