Homework: Basics 12
(there is currently no copy of this assignment available online)
Complete these skills practicing your accuracy and comfort with them.
Take special care with the simplifying as it can be easy to assume you are finished when there is still more simplifying to do ... just a hint.
The quiz on Friday will be in a different format that we will go over in class on Thursday, but this is it for the skill set!

Assignment: Quizlet - 5 minutes
Today you are to practice Quizlet for 5 minutes (minimum).
I am asking that you practice one of the fraction speed sets: Simplifying, Renaming Mixed to Improper, or Renaming Improper to Mixed. Put a little time pressure on yourself and go for the record! You may practice more than one set, but don't just flit around; give yourself time to improve in the skill before moving on.
You are to practice in either Gravity or Space Race mode.
I am trusting you to practice for 5 minutes (minimum) and not to "pause" to figure out your answers. Keep practicing "with speed" and you will eventually settle in.
Due: Friday
***send Mo an email or bring in a signed note***

Assignment: Map Distances
Assignment: Map Distances ws
(aka the deceptive worksheet)Use the map to answer the questions; remember that it is NOT to scale, you will need to use the fractions to answer the questions.
*No short-cuts! Follow the roads
*Make sure you answer all parts of each question.
*On question #5, Tom begins at his house. He does not need to run his errands in the given order and he will not return home. He is going to "bring" a book to Ann, not "buy one; assume that she's borrowing one he already owns. Be extra careful on this one!

Assignment: Fraction Choice #1
Today you selected your first worksheet with basic fraction skills. This is the first assignment that you will get feedback from me on, so hopefully you selected something with that in mind. You will be navigating your way through this unit mostly on your own, so think about your choices carefully.
There were many skills and levels to choose from, but if you need an online copy HERE is an option if you forgot/lost/ate yours.

Homework for Wednesday, 2/10
Assignment: Draw Four, Check One
(there is currently NOT a copy of this assignment)
Draw Four: First complete the four problems using VISUAL models on ANOTHER sheet of paper. We have practiced this skill, so the expectation is that you will be able to represent these stories in this way.
Ultimately you should have an answer, but it's correctness is only half of the value of the points. The other half is showing me how you worked through the problems using visual cues.
Check One: Select one of the problems to have an older sibling, neighbor, or adult solvse. Give them the problem (and a piece of paper?) and encourage them to show you all of their work so you can see their thinking. Feel free to ask questions afterwards if you do not understand what they did, but in general you should be able to tell.
Then your task is to analyze their work. Did they work it out in the same way as you did or differently? Were there common elements between your work? Did they use all numbers or did they represent it visually too? Did you even get the same answer?!?! Write at least three sentences of your observations; you may write these directly on their work page.
P.S. You can give the problems out to multiple people if you want to!
Have fun!

Assignment: Quizlet - Fractions 2
Select one set of fractions on my Quizlet page to practice; it may be the same one you practiced over the weekend or a different set, but in either case you need to practice what you NEED to practice.
-If you are also completing your set that you forgot to do this past weekend, it must be a different set than the one you complete for tonight.
-You may practice in any mode, but you should complete the set.
-You may practice any of the fractions sets, but keep in mind they are not organized together unless you have created a folder specifically for them. Options all have "fraction" in their title and include sets of:
*Simplifying
*Fraction Factors
*Addition
*Subtraction
*Multiplication
*Division
*Mixed Review
*Order of Operations
*Applications
-When you have completed set, you may either select "print" and have it signed or send me an email and I will look at your account and verify that you have completed it.
-If you are one of those people who have forgotten your account name, please ask someone (including me) to scan the list for something that you might have chosen. You can then send Quizlet an "I forgot my password" notice and get back in. People having multiple accounts really bogs down the time it takes me to go through the list!
-This is a pass/no pass assignment, so please put solid effort into it for your own benefit.

Assignment: Rectangle Ratios
This assignment requires you to draw the orginal 6 foot by 11 foot rectangle on your paper.
There are four different scales you will use meaning you will draw that rectangle four time!
Show your math work.
Make sure that your measurements are accurate!!!!!!
At the bottom of the page you are asked to reflect on what you noticed about how the size (shape?) of the rectangles change according to the changes in the scale. Consequently, the answer "the size changes," is not an adequate answer. Be specific and make observations.
