Homework for Monday, September 15

 Hot Diggety Dog  (worksheet)

Due Tuesday, September 16

Hot Diggety Dog combines decimal addition with finding the food purchases that fit the clues.

There should be some trial and error, but also some pre-work to eliminate food purchases that do not fit any scenario.

How can you help?

*Make sure they are aware of what foods qualify as dairy. There is no need to read between the lines: there is no "hidden" dairy in these food items.

*Encourage them to look ahead for the most helpful clues. Can any of the purchases be eliminated from contention? Can toppings be organized from least to most expensive? Identify and eliminate first before steps of trial and error.

*Make sure they line up their decimals when adding and subtract from zeroes by borrowing. If they do not know how to borrow, please go over the traditional rules. You can give money as your best example for why this works: if you have $3.00 and need to subtract 40 cents, so you borrow from one of your dollars to have $2 dollars and 100 cents (or 0.1). This worksheet is a good reminder of why borrowing works.

That's about it! This worksheet only really trips up those who work too fast and don't check all of the details and requirements. Doing well on this encourages you to make sure you always do both!
