Assignment: Coordinate Picture
Today you received directions for recreating a picture a classmate designed earlier in the school year. Your task is to draw the picture following the directions on the page precisely! No matter what you think the drawing might look like or should be, plot the points they gave you and follow their directions.
This assignment is graded complete/incomplete. If you do not follow the directions correctly you will get half credit for this assignment; there will be no redoes.

Homework for Monday, May 23
Priority: Complete your Finance Park folder!
A list of assignments and links to those assignments are on the Finance Park tab. Sending me an email asking for those links will not be an efficient way to operate at the last minute ...
Monday's Assignment: 3 Stock Line Plots
1) Using the Week 5 Team Summary page, calculate the current value of your portfolio. You are to use the latest values of the stocks on the gold sheet I gave you in class.
*Gold Sheet Link
2) Make a Line Plot for 3 Stocks
Using the paper handed out in class today, you are to create 3 line plots of comparable stocks selected from the gold sheet. Your team does NOT need to own these stocks.
*The top of the page should be used for the title of your graphs and your key: a list of the stocks you are comparing, the colors you are using, your scales, etc.
*The bottom of the page is used for plotting your three line plots.
*We are using 1 box = 1 day across the bottom (or top) of your graph. Make sure to start (opening costs) on April 21 and use the last date as May 20. Plot your points at the intersections and connect them with straight lines. April has 30 days.
*You are coming up with your own scale for the money side of things. Use a range that includes the stocks you are using: you do NOT need to start at zero (and should not) unless you are using the cheaper stocks. Your scale should reach as close to the top as is logical ... your scale needs to make sense and you will be graded on your selection of a logical scale.
*Use different colors for each of the stocks. Make your line plots neat and accurate!
Due Tuesday, but remember to prioritize your folder first! There will not be late points for this assignment being late.

Life Folder Assignment: Transportation Variable - Link
Of special note for this assignment is the fact that you do NOT need to have your variable total fall within your minimum and maximum guidelines. This is different than MOST of the other budgets you are completing in this project. MOST of the budgets REQUIRE that you fiddle around with the numbers and your purchases UNTIL you are within your budget guidelines. In the case of your variable transportation costs, you are now operating with the car you bought and the mileage you rolled and your family situation ... either you budgeted enough (whew!), you budgeted too much (in which case you can breathe a greater sigh of relief), or you budgeted too little (in which case you need to save elsewhere where you can) ... while still being within your minimum and maximum guidelines in those categories. This is a category where you cross your fingers and hope things work out in your favor. ;-)
*In case you are super interested in how I came up with the cost for charging your electric car, here is the statement and site I chose to use:
"If electricity is 12 cents per kWh — the national average — it would cost $3.48 to go 100 miles."

*this is called "Furnishings" on your Budget Guidelines worksheet
Follow the directions carefully on this assignment. There will be some trial and error in figuring out how much of your credit card debt you can pay in cash.
You need to buy THREE DIFFERENT items meaning it will take cutting out and gluing on three different advertisements to complete this assignment correctly. Buying "three mattresses" counts as one purchase although you might feel that should be three items. It is not in this case.
You must use printed advertisements, including catalogs, but may not use online resources for this assignment.

In your folder: Groceries worksheet - Link
The directions are in pretty fine detail on this worksheet, but it may take you some reading to figure out exactly. Make sure that ultimately you write all of your choices ON the worksheet in the spaces provided; simply writing totals in the last column won't cut it.
Do your best to eat healthy, eh?
Today we determined two possible due dates for our folder, knowing that the final folder assignments would be parceled out this week: Tuesday, May 24 or Wednesday, May 25. We will select the final date once we know what Mr. Gacek has planned for your Sway projects.
As with the FP Books, late folders will lose 10% of their value per day.

Assignment: Buy new stocks! - Link
Using the list of current prices (far right column) on the yellow sheet that I handed out in class today and the number I gave you for the amount of money you have to spend, you are to purchase new stocks. Just you and your money.
The money is yours from the stocks you sold earlier this week. Some of you have thousands and some of you have mere dollars, but in all cases you are responsible for reinvesting THAT amount for your team. Your job is to invest as much of that money as you can; no one should have more than $10 left as cash on their own.
This assignment MUST be done by tomorrow for credit; there will be no credit for late purchases, your money will just be absorbed back in by your team.
On the back of the yellow sheet write the stocks you are purchasing, their purchase price (per share), and the total amount you spent plus the leftover cash. That's the math part, folks. ;-)
*It could look something like this: $13.40 to spend, Bought 3 shares of Mo'Stock at $4.04 per share = $12.12. Remaining cash = $1.28
Due Friday morning at the beginning of class.
Kate, you have $310.23 to spend
Ellen, you have $181.91 to spend
Your Finance Park books are due by the end of the school day on Friday.
Books turned in on Monday will lose 10% of their value, accumulating 10% more of the original value every day thereafter.
You can do it!

Assignments: Two folder worksheets, 1 Survey
Entertainment and Recreation Worksheet (folder)
This sheet is pretty complex, yet really specific. Be sure to read and follow the directions carefully, noting the difference circumstances that apply to YOU in your situation. Are you married? Have kids? Etc. As it says on the worksheet, you can not be TOO specific, but you can leave out details that I need from you ... so be thorough!
Dining Out Worksheet - (folder)
You are to eat out with your family at least once. You are required to print out the menu, select your items (by person), and figure in tax.
Survey: Finance Park Field Trip
Please answer these questions honestly and hand it back in for credit (2 points, complete/incomplete). This is a new program for the field trip, so they are looking for your feedback. Please note that it is for the FIELD TRIP ONLY, not for the work we are doing in class.
Due asap
Thanks!

Finance Park Field Trip Notes
Hey everyone, you were great today, thank you!
Regarding the work that still needs to be done in your folders, I will need the weekend to evaluate what still makes sense for you to do.
I'm thinking at this time of letting you hand in whatever you accomplished AT the park ... and if I need more from you I can give it back with those specific requests. I really don't expect you to spend a lot of outside time on your field trip folders; that's what our in-class folders are for. So at this time you will see a participation "credit" on TeacherEase while I assess how else to credit the rest of your work today.
In other words PRIORITIZE: please focus on your book and your life folder we're completing in class. Have a great 3-day weekend and be prepared for a busy math Monday!
Mo ;-)

Assignment: #15 Check Registry, pages 58 - 59
Be sure to pay attention to what is a debit and what is a credit in your checking account Your parents do know how to fill out a registry, so ask them if you have questions.

Assignment: #14 Credit Scenarios, page 55
The references for this page are pages 51 and 52 in your book. How much you "need" to read them is up to you, but all of the guidelines you need are there. Then follow the directions on page 55 and you are good to go!
Nothing else new was assigned.
Priorities: Make sure your budget guidelines are approved, then purchase your house and car.
These big purchases are key to how much you will have left to spend. I will be doing preliminary checks of those purchases next week!

Assignments: Stocks #3 and Transportation
Priority: Stocks #3
The thing is, if you did not complete copying the information from you group data sheet, you will not be able to complete this tonight.
To summarize:
*Everyone should have the SAME information based upon the top section of your summary page. This section represents the stocks (and shares) you have in your team's position as of last Wednesday when you bought them. That represents the data in the first three boxes of each row.
*Today's Total Value represents the value as figured based on the latest value sheet I gave you in class today. If you left that sheet in class, you are lucky I have a copy of those values here.
*At the bottom of the page, you are to choose 3 - 5 shares (of stocks) to sell. You may sell all of one kind of stock or different kinds, but YOU will only have reinvestment money based upon what YOU sell as an individual on your team.
*The sticky notes at the bottom of your group page are for communicating with your team which stock shares you sold. Obviously (?!?) you cannot sell more shares than you have, eh? This should NOT be reflected in the top section of the sheet ... see above if you wonder what is reflected in that section.
Finance Park Folder: Buy your car - Transportation
The directions are ON the sheet (see link above) and it is your responsibility to follow them to a tee. If you have a question that is not answered on the sheet, then send me an email. Otherwise, I will tell you to read the sheet. ;-)
EXTRA copies of permission slips are HERE.
And due by Wednesday
