*When you have a negative outside of a parentheses (as in 5x - 8(x+2)) be sure to distribute the negative to both terms in the parentheses (as in 5x - 8x - 16) then simplify (as in -3x - 16).
*Be careful ... this should not be "in your head" stuff!
