Homework for Monday, February 25

Stressed out by arithmetic? Wish you had more equations at your fingertips? Here they are! And you get to choose them ...

Assignment 1: Triangle Cards
Today you received 5 triangles and one rectangle.
The triangles are for math facts of your choice, like 4 x 6 = 24.
*note, this triangle works for multiplication, but also division, and also finding factors!
*By adding negatives, you can even include that reminder: -4 x -6 = 24 or -4 x 6 = -24
The ONLY thing that goes in the corner is the number because the cool thing is that these cards work in various orders.
*You may also make exponents or multiples of a number on your cards, but
Only three numbers, one per corner, may be on each side.
Troy, Zoe, and Danni, don't worry about these triangle cards; you can pick them up later.

Assignment 2: Nefarious Nikita 3 or 6
The primary difference between these two versions of this assignment is that "6" has you writing the single equations and "3" comes with the equations included.
FULLY READ the story so you can see how the final equations came about, whether or not you are writing them yourself. This is the future of math (applying it in various situations) but we our focus is on solving fractions overall.
Please select the one that works for you.

Homework for Thursday, February 21

Assignment: Applications with Sven - Link!
Today you will use your knowledge of fractions to answer these 5 problems. Be sure to read the questions carefully and be certain you know what it is asking. Use the sentence cues (where the answer goes) to reinforce that you understand them and that your answer makes sense.
This is a mixed skill set practice, so using a "draw it" strategy to help your thinking is also strongly recommended.

Homework for Wednesday, February 20

Assignment: Fraction Division Choice
Today we reviewed division with fractions in class. Choices for homework included practice with equations or practice in application. You may simplify your answers before or after working the problems, just as long as your final answer is in simplest form.
If you need help remembering which fraction to flip (the second one) or other details, you can find fraction division on the Mo'Help tab.

Homework ... for this entire week? ;-)

Assignment: 3 Quizlets
Let's presume you know what you need to practice for this fraction review. We have already reviewed addition, subtraction, and multiplication so those should be good to go. If division boggles your brain, don't choose it ... we will review it next week. So here are the guidelines:
1) Set your paper up as -
  a) Type of Study
*Write or Flashcards, 10 correct, or Gravity for 5 minutes minimum
  b) Set Studied (any of the fraction sets, your choice)
  c) The date you completed the set

2) You may only complete one set per day. If there are extenuating circumstances, like you are on a trip, please write that into the date you completed the sets and write WHY. If you simply forgot to complete three over the next 5 days, then say so. You will lose one of the 9 points, but that's a pretty small penalty!

3) You will hand in one paper copy verifying your 3 Quizlet sets. Please do not send me an email this time.

Study what you truly need to review. You know best!
Due Wednesday, February 20, or whenever we next return to school.

Homework for Thursday, February 7

Assignment: Fraction Addition Choice
*Feel free to switch assignment choices if you are dissatisfied with the choice you made in class. Seriously, you just owe me one assignment, but it's your choice all the way!
I'm calling this first one the choice for those of you feeling "Rusty with Addition." Like it? ;-)

This second assignment is for those of you curious as to how adding fractions works when you have negatives ... I have confidence you will figure it out.

Homework for Wednesday, February 6

Assignment: Networks - Link!
This assignment is to help you think about routes, mapping, and different ways they can be represented. Networks are used for all sorts of things, like for costs and efficiencies.
We are translating this work into our Frodoland mapping. Think about how using a scale may have helped you track these routes visually rather than be dependent on checking everything numerically.
We will continue to build on these ideas!
*Nodes are the letters, arcs are the lines ... but that's not the question. ;-)

Homework for Tuesday, February 5

Assignment: Multiplication Choicea)  Fraction Multiplication - Link!
Are you feeling the need to multiply fractions the regular way, making your own decisions about simplifying before or after you work the problems? This worksheet is for you! Do note though that ALL answers must be in simplest form for full credit.
b)  Fraction Multiplication - cross-cancel - Link!
Feel confident in your ability to multiply fractions and want to apply cross cancelling on a deeper level? This worksheet has you simplify before you solve, finding either the prime factorization or simply looking for common factors and simplifying those. Either way!
At this point, you must fully show me your cancellations so I can make sure you are using them correctly. Prepare for next steps with these mind-blowing "Francis moments."
*my blog has the Mo'Help tab which has a link to reviewing cross-canceling if you need it.

Homework for Monday, February 4

Assignment: Factoring Choice
a)  Factors - Link!
Need practice listing factors, identifying prime factors, looking for common factors, then finding the greatest common factor from that list? This worksheet is for you! This is test level factoring.
b)  Prime Factorization - Intro - Link!
Feel confident in your ability to understand and manipulate factors? This worksheet has you create factor trees, then find the prime factors to translate into the prime factorization for each given number. At this point you must create the factor tree before writing the prime factorization.
