This category will take up the largest percentage of your budget, so consider your options carefully.
We went over how to navigate the website in class today except for "showing" you the calculator at the bottom right of the page you will print. You MUST fill in that calculator field and it MUST show up on the page you print for credit.
All of the directions you need are on the blue sheet of paper, but you will need to read them step- by-step as you work.
Staple your printed page to this blue sheet and leave it in your folder. I will review your houses in time so you will know if you need to do redo anything.

#10 - Lawn Care, pages 22-23.
All of the information you need is on page 22 (the tables), but you also need a grasp of the vocabulary we went over in class. This assignment will help you to differentiate between profit, costs, variables, and income. If you have questions about any of the vocabulary on these pages I'm sure there are plenty of people who can point you in the right direction.
The last two questions on page 23 require you to use the calculations you made to draw conclusions regarding how best to earn your money. Be explicit in your answers!

The young adults in this assignment have the same net monthly income, but they've chosen to spend their money in different ways. Apparently they do not have to follow the guidelines of the Average American budget, eh?

However, if you need to redo your taxes and/or have not had those corrected, you should NOT work on your Budget Guidelines sheet.

1) Life Poster - It's time to represent your new self artistically!
Posters should be completed with real names and reflect your life situation.
You are to draw yourself as if you are going to your job; how would you dress as a professional in your field?
If you have a spouse or children, you will draw them too - make sure you reflect their ages and interests (as you imagine them).
The "previously known as" line is for the 7th & 8th graders who "lived your life" before you did; I will give you their names tomorrow.
Family portraits should be drawn, inked, and colored directly on the sticker you were given. I do have extra stickers if you don't like what you've drawn.
Borders MUST be decorated; the inside of the posters may be.
This is an effort based grade, so put your best effort into it!

A few of you came in at break as I suggested and got some help, but the rest of you just might be struggling to figure this form out. Let me tell you that your parents CAN most likely help you navigate this form, so do check with them.
Otherwise, the steps for figuring your federal income tax is on the reverse side. Follow the steps at the bottom of the page, as we did in class today, to figure out your monthly income tax. This is a graduated tax, so pay attention to the details. Your grade will reflect how well you follow these steps using your GAI, so be careful. You MAY use a calculator.

Congratulations to all of you, your lives have begun. You are about to "live" one month in your imaginary life complete with a lucky break and something that goes badly for you. You will be moving to a new home, buying a car, and making other purchases to fulfill your new average American life. But that's all in the weeks to come. For today ...
Assignment: Career Research
Complete this worksheet based upon the CAREER you drew for your life, not about your life situation (family members, etc.). You may use the internet, real people, or other materials to do your research, but your information must be accurate.
*Main Ideas: You are looking for trends and generalities about your career remembering that you yourself are most likely not at the top of your career.
*Your Ideals: For each of the reasearch categories in "Main Ideas," write your feelings on how your imaginary job matches your actual interests. Responses like, "Yes, I match," are not answers that will get you credit, so be detailed in your answers.
At the bottom of the page, write your overall thoughts about the CAREER you have drawn. Be honest!
And be prepared to have fun with the coming challenges.

You must have your proportions on your work page for credit AND show your work in solving them. It is important to recognize when you have a proportion set up incorrectly and when you have an arithmetic error ... they are very different!

Assignments 4 - 6: Pages 12, 13, and 27 in Finance Park Book
Today we discussed taxes ... simplistically, but taxes nonetheless.
When you are working on these assignments, please feel free to discuss these pages with other people. In fact, I encourage you to! No internet research, I want you to have real, live conversations about what is taxed and what is not.
4: Page 12 - What Do You Think?
This is an opinion piece, but I do expect you to elaborate and make your opinion clear to me. It requires you to think about the idea that taxes are collected to pay for things (like schools, like firefighters, like the FBI), but could perhaps be paid for when you actually use them instead. This would give you more money in your pocket, theoretically, but then you would have to save for these types of things so you are ready to pay for them whenever that need arises. It's actually pretty complex, but interesting to think about. It is worth two points, so be certain to earn them!

Fill in the Sales Tax and Property Tax tables. Be sure your choices are accurate ones!

Today we took the first steps towards getting a new life! I will be adding a Finance Park tab soon (probably tomorrow) where you can keep updated on the assignments for both your book and your folder. Keep up with the assignments as they come your way and you'll be good to go, trust me.
For these first assignments, this is all about you and becoming connected to what you think as an individual. Think about how you feel and be honest; you are given credit for completing these assignments; there are no "right" answers. And be sure to read the direcctions fully on each page so you complete each page correctly!!!!

*complete the table based upon what you believe will be important to YOU in your future job. Be sure to list your top three on the bottom of the page.

You MUST set up the verbal equation as a proportion.
You should think of this in the terms we reviewed in class:
What number is = this percent
of this other number? 100%
Just fill in the blanks and reread what you have in the proportion with the numbers you have replaced the prompts with. Does it still read the same?
Any math that needs to be done should be done on the page; no calculators for this one.
Start getting in the swing of it!
