Homework for Tuesday, April 25
Folder Assignments:
1) Housing - link!
All of the directions are on this worksheet and you must abide by them. Your grade is in the details ... did you assess your 10% down payment correctly? Did you use your lucky chance if you have one? Did your final payment fall between the minimum and maximum guidelines?
Read the worksheet and follow it step-by-step if you are confused.
Make sure you PRINT your page with the calculator showing. Then staple it to the back of your aqua housing worksheet and put it into your folder for me to approve at a later date.
2) Water/Sewer/Trash - link!
Once your housing has been approved you may complete this worksheet. Remember that you must have a phone line, but internet and cable are optional. We talked about this at length in class, so you know why even if it drives you a little crazy! ;-)
QUIZ BOWL #5 Questions are due on WEDNESDAY, April 25

Homework for Thursday, April 20
Book Assignments:
Write a Check - page 57
*You are graded on following these directions precisely! Ask an adult if you need help understanding what to do or how a check looks.
Checkbook Balance - pages 58-59
*Be careful as you work through the debits and credits, keeping a running balance as you go. Inaccurate record keeping will lose you points!
Folder Assignment:
Groceries - green sheet
*This was covered in class today and all of your questions are most likely backed-up by reading the helpful information on the work side of this assignment.
*Note - do not transfer this onto your yellow budget sheet until you have had it approved! (there is another reason too, but we'll talk about that in class)

Homework for Wednesday, April 19
Book Assignment:
#10 - Evaluating Sample Budgets - pg 77
Use the information given in the table to answer the questions.
Have conversations with adults, (not including me) if you need guidance, but remember that the point of these assignments is to use YOUR brain, wisdom, and the given data to draw your own conclusions.
"I don't know," and "Not enough information," and "Because he's not smart," are not acceptable answers ... and there ARE incorrect answers if you misinterpret the question or are too brief. Be clear!

Assignments for Tuesday, April 18
Have you had your final NMI approved yet? Be sure to do so before you begin the Budget Guidelines assignment below.
In your Folder:
Lucky Chance -
Today we drew lucky chances; this should be written on your assignment sheet. Once you have completed your lucky chance task, you should check this off on your assignment sheet. You will be graded on following the directions accurately. ALL of the lucky chances are different and occur at different times in your life.
Life Profile - Link!
You can start on this assignment, but will not be able to complete it until we draw Unlucky Chances. Fill in as much as you can now!
Budget Guidelines - Link!
This is the meat of your assignments today. This is a hefty, important assignment and worth up to 13 points simply for completing the first portions accurately.
Once you have had your final NMI approved you can transfer that number to this worksheet and begin.
USE YOUR FINAL NMI to complete the minimum and maximum guidelines for each of the budget categories. These guidelines need to be approved before you begin purchasing and will serve as your basis for how much you can (and need to) spend in each of the categories.
You may use a calculator, of course, and copy any percentage numbers that reoccur from one category in another.
We will discuss HOW to use your budget guidelines later! You should not attempt to complete the "spent" or "balance" portions of this worksheet at this time.

Homework for Monday, April 17
Assignment: Calculate your NMI
*but not including your lucky chance!
Follow the directions on this worksheet ... it's all there.
*The first column is for writing the number of that tax (example: Medicare = $415.00) based on the percent of your GAI.
*The second column is your running total of subtractions and additions.
DO NOT work past the Lucky Chance line! We will do that tomorrow.
Due in the in-box Tuesday
Finance Park Book:
Stock Quotes: page 39
Use the table ... seriously. Don't overthink it, it's all there. Normally you would read a line plot, but they've already put the data into the table for you! Most of it is "for the day," at the time the stock market closed yesterday. Please, just go with it.
*Previous Close is the current price "for the day."
*High & Low both refer to the previous day's data.
Back to the Future: page 41
This assignment is to be done with and discussed with a parent or grandparent. The point of it is the discussion that happens as you think of different savings scenarios. Every question needs an answer.
*Note - some people like to answer the questions themselves and have their parents answer them too (in another color) in order to guide the discussion. Your choice!

Assignment: Your Federal Income Tax worksheet - Link!
Today you received a pretty complicated (yet simplistic at the same time) form for figuring out your federal taxes. A few of you came in at break as I suggested and got some help, but the rest of you just might be struggling to figure this form out. Hint #1 - follow the directions. Hint #2 - your parents CAN most likely help you navigate this form, so do check with them ... just tell them not to expect actual federal compliance or accuracy. ;-)
Follow the steps, as we did in class today, this time using YOUR GAI to calculate your NAI. This is a graduated tax, so pay attention to the details. Your grade will reflect how well you follow these steps using your GAI, so be careful. You may definitely use a calculator and round to the nearest penny or dollar.
Due Thursday (in the in-basket)
In your FP Book:
Assignment #5 - Paycheck Calculations, page 15 (15 points)
might be struggling to figure this form out. Let me tell you that your parents CAN most likely help you navigate this form, so do check with them ... just tell them not to expect federal compliance. ;-)

On this page, you have three different scenarios to calculate taxes for. Jamal will remind you of Kyle, but now you will use proportions to figure out the taxes he pays in each of these categories. (remember, there were no taxes in Kyle's world) You will then meet Trey and Marie, both of whom earn salaries as given. Note that there FICA taxes have different percentages, yet the other tax rates are the same ... with different numerical results.
Use a calculator, set them up as proportions as needed, round to the nearest penny or dollar (be consistent with your choice), and check it off on your assignment sheet when completed!

Homework for Tuesday, April 11
Folder Assignment: Career Research
Complete this worksheet based upon the CAREER you drew for your life, not about your life situation (family members, etc.). You may use the internet, real people, or other materials to do your research, but your information must be accurate.
*Main Ideas: You are looking for trends and generalities about your career remembering that you yourself are most likely not at the top of your career.
*Your Ideals: For each of the research categories in "Main Ideas," write your feelings on how your imaginary job matches your actual interests. Responses like, "Yes, I match," are not answers that will get you credit, so be detailed in your answers.
At the bottom of the page, write your overall thoughts about the CAREER you have drawn. Be honest!
And be prepared to have fun with the coming challenges.
Target Due Date Wednesday - but keep in mind this is just to be inserted in your life folder
Assignment: Life Poster - It's time to represent your new self artistically!
Posters should be completed with real names and reflect your life situation.
You are to draw yourself as if you are going to your job; how would you dress as a professional in your field?
If you have a spouse or children, you will draw them too - make sure you reflect their ages and interests (as you imagine them).
The "previously known as" line is for the 7th & 8th graders who "lived your life" before you did.
Family portraits should be drawn, inked, and colored directly on the sticker you were given. I do have extra stickers if you don't like what you've drawn.
Borders MUST be decorated; the inside of the posters may be.
This is an effort based grade, so put your best effort into it!
Due Friday
Nina, you will need to draw your life when you get back, so you can complete these assignments. Get well soon!

*these should be written on the assignment sheet taped to the inside front of your FP book.
1) Rate Your Interests - page 4
*complete the table and circle your top three.
2) Rate Your Abilities - page 5

3) Rate your Values - page 6
*complete the table based upon what you believe will be important to YOU in your future job. Be sure to list your top three on the bottom of the page.
