Assignment: Percents and Proportions - Link!
Most of the questions that I answered during the CWP today were related to how the "What-is-of" organizational method works. I suggest you use the Mo'Help tab and go through the instructions again if you need to. Honestly, it works in a way that will make you (hopefully) feel more confident in how you set up your equations. Just try it. ;-)

Assignment: M&M Data - Link!
*This link does not have the three graphs; you will have to make your own or wait until tomorrow to get them.
Here is the data for the bags we opened:
Bag 1 - Blue 10, Brown 9, Green 13, Orange 8, Red 6, Yellow 8 (54 total)
Bag 2 - Blue 12, Brown 7, Green 11, Orange 9, Red 11, Yellow 7 (57 total)
Bag 3 - Blue 10, Brown 5, Green 15, Orange 10, Red 6, Yellow 7 (56 total)
Any homework incomplete in the morning will not be participating in the "guess the bag" activity.

Assignment: Percent Applications - Link!
Today we talked about challenges and working through them.
Are these problems challenging? YES.
Can you work through them? YES.
Will organizing your work into proportions help? YES, YES, YES.
Think about it this way:
*what is your part?
*what is your whole?
*what is your part percent?
*what is your whole percent? (100% of the time)
*which of these is missing or, in other words, the question you are being asked?
Set up your work using labels, THEN solve. Once you see them in a proportion, you may be surprised at how quickly you know what to do next.
Remember: the numbers are secondary ... you have to set the problem up correctly or the numbers will be irrelevant.
*There is more specific help for how to think about these on the Mo'Help tab.

Assignment: Percentage Boxes ws - LINK!
Please note, there are NOT 100 boxes in the grid. That's the rub: use proportions to answer the questions. Make your conversions using proportions. In the end, you will have white boxes left and those will be your final answers.
Yes, it's supposed to take some figuring and reckoning to figure out.
COLORING the boxes is part of the assignment, so please do so!

Assignment: Proportion Applications #1
Proportion Applications #1 - Link!
This is for all of you because it involves practice reading the "problem" and converting into the proportion. Once correctly converted, how you do the arithmetic is now in your hands. However, I will say that my favorite way is still, "multiply on the diagonal, then divide ..."

Assignment: Proportions A or B
I cannot stress enough how important it is that you practice the rhythm of solving these problems. I will set you free after this, but for now, your work is to FIRST multiply, THEN divide for the solution. Seriously ... no "smart" problem-solving tonight, just practice the steps.
(How often does a teacher tell you not to practice your smarts?!?! We'll get back to that ...)
A: Solving Proportions - Link!
This worksheet has the simpler arithmetic
B: Solving Proportions - Link!
This worksheet has a bit more challenging arithmetic, but it's not rocket science. ;-)

Assignment: Apps Choice
Fraction/Decimal Apps Practice - Link!
A lot of you expressed interest in having more practice with fraction apps, so here they are! This one even includes some decimal work (as review), but really they all solve in the same way.
Verbal Variable Equation Writing - Link!
We will continue to work on this, but the important things are: LABELS - come up with a variable that represents each item and identify what that variable represents, ORDER OF OPS - make sure your equation works as written with the end result that EQUALS THE ANSWER. I like to use "x" as my solution but you may certainly choose another variable as long as it is identified.

Assignment: Frodoland Survey
This survey is in the now familiar form of "online quiz" in TeacherEase. Find the Frodoland Survey assignment and click on it!
You will be asked to provide feedback to your Frodoland teammates. This is important to help people learn how to become better team members, but also to celebrate the time and energy you have put in together on this project!
*Just like on your report cards, 5 is outstanding effort, 4 is good solid effort, 3 is mixed efforts, 2 is needs improvement, 1 means they did very little to help with the project.
*BE HONEST. I am the only one who will read your survey and will summarize the group thoughts in a helpful way.
*Rate yourself fairly. There is a tendency to under-rate one's own efforts, but if you know you put in your best, consistent efforts, then score yourself appropriately! On the other hand, if you know you put in inconsistent efforts and depended on your team to spur you to action, then reflect that.
*Answer the remaining questions in depth! Some of you consistently lose points for your 5 words answers. I'm asking for you to elaborate, so please do to receive full credit.
Due Friday
*We will finish Frodoland sometime in the near future

Assignment: Sven Equations - Link!
Yes, this is exactly the same assignment we worked on with partners in class. Now it is your turn as an individual to write these as equations.
Use variables (identify them) and numbers where they apply.
Use the order of operations to create a single equation, not multiple equations to put together. It can work!
Your answer should ALWAYS be x.
Due Thursday
*Quiz Bowl questions may be placed in my basket in room #1 or sent via email. I need them by Wednesday evening!
