Assignment: Fraction Division #1 plus "why"
Today we reviewed the mechanics for how to divide fractions. Many of you had simply forgotten how to divide and needed a refresher ... hopefully today helped. Please remember that this is because you probably learned "how" but not "why." Therefore:
1) You selected a division worksheet based upon whether you felt the material was new or review for you. I do not have copies of those online.
2) On the back of the worksheet your are to explain "why" dividing fractions works the way it does. Why do you THINK you simply take the second fraction, use its reciprocal, then multiply? You can ask a parent, a wise elder, google, or come up with your own reasoning. It does not matter how you come up with your answer, it matters that you have thought about it and attempted to explain it. You are much more likely to remember how to divide fractions if you have some understanding of why it works and have not just memorized a series of steps. AND - You need to be able to convince David tomorrow as to why it works. I have a feeling he is going to be one tough customer.
If you still need help with the division steps, please use the "how to divide fractions" link on the Mo'Help tab of this blog. They are there for you!
