Assignment: Order of Operations with Negatives
It really is time to use negatives within the order of operations. I know that this seemed overwhelming to some of you in class today, but you WILL get it. Just write out the steps, line by line ... think of it as simplifying the equation as you work down until it is as simple as 2 - 5. Remember: don't look back at the original problem; trust where you are in your work (which is why you have it written down).*For more help remembering the order of operations, check the Mo'help tab where you will find handy links.
*Please continue to practice your addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division separately. Most of you did VERY well on the pop quiz today, but practice will still help.
*My Quizlet page has some nice options for you and I'm still looking for a speed champion in the new negatives speed set!
*This is a differentiated assignment, so there are not extra copies available here. If you do contact me via email (or "comment" on this post), then I can send you a copy of yours.
Due Friday
The computation section of the negative integers test will be next Thursday, January 10. The test will include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. There will be decimals, there will be absolute value brackets, and you will be expected to use everything within the order of operations.
The application section of this unit will be the following week.
